Congratulations to Irwin Elman, former Ontario’s Provincial Advocate for Children and Youth from 2008-2019 who is the winner of the Lynn Factor Stand Up for Kids National Award.
The Award recognizes extraordinary Canadians who have made an indelible mark on the child welfare landscape in Canada. In its second year, the Award is part of Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada’s Stand Up for Kids national campaign for child welfare mobilizing Canadians who want to help change the future for Canada’s most at-risk children and youth.
Learn more about Irwin and the significant difference he has made in the lives of children and youth in child welfare as well as young people with lived experience in child welfare (see below).
Together, the 2019 Award finalists will direct a total of $75,000 in grants to enable and/or advance child welfare initiatives. As National Award winner, Irwin has selected Feathers of Hope, Hairstory, and Ontario Child Advocacy Coalition to receive $50,000 in grants. The other finalists have also selected their charities who will receive $5,000 grants each (see below).
Like Irwin, this year’s finalists are remarkable and inspiring change-makers who are standing up for vulnerable children and youth in, and transitioning from, Canada’s welfare system. They have dedicated themselves to this most critical role in our society and are leading important initiatives to improve the lives of abused, abandoned and/or neglected kids.
Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada will open nominations for the third annual Lynn Factor Stand Up for Kids National Award in January 2020. To be kept up to date on the 2020 Award process and submission deadline, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
